Verizon Grant to Improve NAACP Information Technology

Washington, DC (BlackPress.org) -In the precursor of the 97th annual national convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Verizon has awarded the NAACP with a grant of $1.5 million dollars as an initial portion of a $4 million grant. $1.5 million grant begins a 3 year, $1.5 million grant, and with future commitments that will total in excess of $4 million dollars. The grants are ear marked to develop their information technology systems.

Verizon, the world’s largest telecommunications company with revenue of 75 billion dollars in 2005.

The partnership breaks down as a multi-partnership that will revamp the IT infrastructure of the whole organization. In the end, there will be increase in NAACP’s abilities to manipulate data in a more robust system, which will enhance communication of the national office and its sister branches. NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization.

Verizon will now join the company of names like IBM, Microsoft, and Cisco Systems I assisting the NAACP with their technology and networking endeavors.Their agreement will be the enhancement of the architectural information systems mapping, hardware, systems integration, project management, software packaging, archiving, and telecommunications, according to the press release from NAACP’s official website.

NAACP joins the many organizations that Verizon donated to, which totals 74 million dollars in 2005. NAACP new website will be presented during the convention, even though other projects of this joint venture has already been up and running.

The management insists the publication isn't just for gay Black men, but industry insiders say that VIBE is testing the waters to see if the nation's first national Black gay men's magazine can be lucrative and well received by America.
