BlackPressRadio.com covers 2007 NAMME conference in Washington, DC NAMME conference covered by Black Press Magazine

(BlackPressMagazine.com) - While their focus isn't aligned with the Historical Black Press Foundation's main mission to enhance Black-owned media outlets, the National Association of Minority Media Executives is an important organization that meets our second-tier mission to foster dialogue between mainstream media and America's Black Press.

The 2007 NAMME Annual Conference opened with the "View from the Top", a CEO panel featuring industry top execs who shares their strategies for success.

DiversityInc executive editor, Barbara Frankel, led the next panel representing company's that received high ratings as diversity super stars. Hear how and why top ranked company's like Coca-Cola, Sodexho, Pepsi Bottling Group and Deloitt & Touche are making good in the workplace and marketplace.

Participants were allowed to choose from four varied "tool-kit" sessions, two each in the am/pm sesions that were hands-on and provide useful, practical skills that can be applied immediately to strengthen and build any ambitious executive's professional arsenal.

Day One concluded with a timely session on "Race, Media and Images" led by award winning author and journalist Ellis Cose who sparked a lively discussion with experts about media's track record on portraying our people and minority media executives at corporate media outlets.

Historical Black Press Foundation's mission is to support Black-owned media outlets but NAMME is important, tooDay Two was devoted to all things digital and starts off with digital pioneer, Rob Curley, vp product development WPNI, who takes the irreverent stand that, above all else, content must be king in his session called "Its the content stupid, not the gadget!" Next, Mario Armstrong returned to show media executives the tools that every savvy business executive needs for themselves and/or their staffers. NAMME finished the technology triad with a focus on the best of the best in Mobile Marketing moderated by Shabnum Norling and featuring mobile marketing gurus from Verizon Wireless, NYTimes Digital, MobiTV, AdMob and the MMA.

Newsmaker Luncheons highlighted each day and was kicked off with former LA Times editor, Dean Baquet, and current Washington Bureau Chief for The New York Times who spoke about managing print newsrooms during an era of cutbacks and Wall Street profit-margin pressures. Thursday's Newsmaker Luncheon speaker, Randall Pinkston, put the journalists spotlight on stories media should be covering but is not, such as Education in America, the state of media and the war in Iraq.

Not to be missed were the networking events at which NAMME and those interested in an intensive session on career reinvention registered for the pre-conference session Reinvent Yourself!--Strategies for Promoting Your Career within a Changing Industry with Pamela Mitchell. Both convened on July 10.

Many of the BlackPressRadio.com interviews took place at the Conference Opening Reception, sponsored by The Washington Post, which was held onsite at the longstanding Washington, DC media landmark. The next evening's event was hosted by FOX and NewsCorporation and was held at the elegant setting of the Jack Valenti Motion Picture Association where attendees were treated to an elegant reception and dinner, film screening and silent auction. Minority media executive were given the opportunity to network independent filmmakers of color and bid on unique items such as tickets to the Sundance Film Festival, the NAACP and ALMA Awards programs, The Black, Asian, and Hispanic Film Festivals, etc.

Interviews were conducted with:

1) Derrick Dingle, Editor of Black Enterprise Magazine
2) Johan Thomas, President of Troubl Media
3) Al Fitzgerald, founder of NAMME
4) Neil Foote, new executive director for NAMME
5) Harlee Little, veteran photojournalist
