(BlackPressMagazine.com) - Over 3,000 people turned out to support Africare, the largest African event held annually in the United States. BlackPressRadio.com provided exclusive podcast interviews with some of the world's most important Africans, media professionals, musicians, actors and songwriters.

The event, which was held at the Hilton Washington Hotel on October 18, 2007, was covered on podcast by BlackPodcasts.com/BlackPressRadio.com, which currently has over 350,000 listeners up from over 90,000 on July 4, 2007.

The event was a black-tie affair that included delicious African music, tasty cuisine and enough star power to light up a football field. Among the people who attended the event included actors Chris Tucker, Ciscily Tyson, politicians from the Congressional Black Caucus, Africare board members Robert Johnson who founded Black Entertainment Television and BET CEO, Debra Lee. Africare executive director, Julius Coles, (right), honored Africa's first female president, Dr. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf with the Bishop Walker Award which has been given to people like Colin Powell and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. This year's event also included a surprise guest speaker, First Lady Laura Bush, who spoke ab out her true admiration of President Johnson Sirleaf, who is president of Liberia.

In his speech, BET founder Robert Johnson said, "I accepted Julius [Coles, executive director]'s invitation to be national chair for two reasons. First because I fundamentally believe in Africare and its mission," he said." But most important reason for me that I accepted the invitation tonight was to support President Johnson Sirleaf and her government's courageous effort to restore prosperity in Liberia," said Johnson, who is the current owner of RLJ Holdings and the Urban Trust Bank.

In a rare moment of activism, Johnson called on others to do more.

"I believe that all Americans, especially African Americans, need to be committed advocates on Liberia's behalf to ensure that the United States does whatever it can to support Liberia's recovery of nearly 15 years of a very horrible civil war," said Johnson. For the over 30 million African Americans, it's important to note that the first 10 presidents of Liberia, were Black America's born in the United States," he said.

The BlackPressradio.com exclusive Africare Podcast Series consists of interviews with or speeches of:

1) Chris Tucker, actor
2) Julius Coles, executive director of Africare
3) Robert Johnson founder of BET and current owner of RLJ Holdings and the Urban Trust Bank
4) Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States
5) Africare board members and attendees

"We are honored to provide a podcast series for the second year in a row for Africare," said DC Livers, managing editor for Black Press Magazine and BlackPressRadio.com. "Our IT team is hard at work developing some really cool features and with our upcoming coverage of major events, I think the best is yet to come," said Livers of BlackPressRadio.com, which currently has over 300,000 downloads, is up for two podcasting awards and is the number one most visited website in Brazil.
